Natural Rhythms: Returning to Ourselves Through Movement, Mindfulness, and Re-connection

There’s a quiet wisdom that lives in the body—an ancient rhythm that knows how to return to balance, even after pain, trauma, and disconnection. In a world that often moves too fast, pulls us out of ourselves, and celebrates disconnection over depth, Natural Rhythms was born as a way to come back home—to our bodies, to our breath, and to our true, authentic selves.

As a trauma-informed therapist and movement facilitator with mixed ancestry (Cayuga, Métis, and German), I created Natural Rhythms as a healing practice that blends gentle yoga, rhythmic movement, meditation, mindfulness, and Indigenous ways of knowing. It’s a class, yes—but more than that, it’s an invitation to "go in and down" (as our elders teach) and move in ways that help us remember who we are.
Why Rhythmic Movement? The Science Behind It
One of the core elements of Natural Rhythms is bilateral stimulation—gentle, patterned movement that engages both sides of the body and brain. This isn’t just soothing; it’s deeply healing. Bilateral stimulation activates the brain's natural ability to process and integrate experiences. It’s a foundational principle in trauma therapies like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), helping individuals process stored trauma and reduce emotional overwhelm.
In the class, we use rhythmic, repetitive movement—like swaying, tapping, walking meditation and dance—to support nervous system regulation and healing. When paired with breath and mindfulness, these movements can calm the stress response, bring us into the present moment, and support neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself toward safety and resilience.
Trauma-Informed, Heart-Led Care
Natural Rhythms is grounded in trauma-informed principles—meaning that every aspect of the class is designed with safety, choice, and empowerment in mind. There is no pressure to perform or do it “right.” You are the expert of your own body. This practice is about reclaiming agency/choice, not about pushing through uncomfortable movements.
Many of us carry trauma—not only personal, but also ancestral and collective. Colonization, cultural disconnection, intergenerational grief—all of this can settle in the body. This is true for all people, regardless of ethnicity. Natural Rhythms offers a gentle path toward release and reconnection, rooted in compassion and curiosity.
Mindfulness, Meditation & Embodied Presence
Throughout the class, we weave in mindfulness and meditation practices that invite participants to ground into the here and now. This might look like a guided body scan, a visualization that connects us to land and lineage, or a simple breath practice that reminds us we are safe in this moment.
These practices are not about escaping discomfort, but about holding space for it with tenderness. When we meet ourselves with awareness and without judgment, healing becomes possible.
Reconnecting with the Authentic Self
Natural Rhythms invites participants to shed the layers placed upon them by systems, expectations, or survival. It is about remembering who you were before the world told you who to be. In a world that values productivity and perfection, this class values presence, playfulness, and embodied truth.
Here, you don’t have to be anyone other than who you are. You are welcomed exactly as you are—and gently guided toward who you are meant to be - your own beautiful unique self! There is no one exactly like you!
Why It Matters
When we reconnect with the rhythm of our own bodies, we reconnect with the rhythm of the Earth, of our ancestors, of all our relations. We heal not only for ourselves but for those who came before us and those who will come after.
Natural Rhythms is one offering in a larger movement toward relational, land-based, and decolonized healing—a movement that honours both science and spirit, both story and stillness.
Whether you're on a personal healing journey, exploring new ways to move and breathe, or simply seeking a space where you can be held and seen, you are welcome here.
With gratitude and rhythm,
